Peace and Quiet

I took a quick detour into the Basilica this morning before heading to work. When I was there last time, there were a couple other shots I thought had potential and I was lacking time today, so I took the easy route if you will.
I went in, took about 6 shots, and I got out. But I did take enough time to absorb the quiet.
It translates quite well I think.

Open Invitation....(for another week)

This is a simple shot of one of the beaches at Lake Calhoun. I am keenly aware of Summer's fading warmth and long days, so I am on the lookout for last glimpses of my most beloved season.
The blue water was begging me to take a dip!

Tonight my baby is legal in every way. You may think this is an odd choice for such an event, but I took lots of snapshots of the family and the birthday girl with her friends, and none of them were right for my blog.
We were together when I took this shot earlier today, and you will all have to trust me when I tell you that this one is just right.

Baby Barefeet

                 I had a photo shoot today at the conservatory with baby Paige.
                                          This is one of my favorites.

Sprinkler Blast

Sunday. My day to sit in front of the TV and watch football until my heart's content. I am not content. The Bears lost, I'm mad at my husband, and I have no desire to go out and find a better shot than this one!
(This all sounds maybe a little angrier than I really am).
At halftime I went out and took a few shots of the sprinkler drenching this tree in my front yard. I like the color pop of the green and the water spraying and dripping in all directions.

Not So Itsy Bitsy

I believe this is my second spider shot since I started my blog.  I couldn't help it, the sun was shining perfectly on him as he went along weaving his web.

Rush Hour Shelter

I shot this today at 4:00. Right under the city traffic. I could hear the noise, but I felt like I was hiding out in a strange emerald city all my own. Sometimes you just have to stop and see what's under your path every day.
Literally.

Take A Seat

Chairs. What's so special about these chairs? The angle. The shadows. The color.
I decided to go into a different house of worship after taking some shots in the Basilica the other day. This is all I could find that interested me in the spot I chose.

Falling Crystals

This is a shot of a rock crystal chandelier lit from the ceiling. I like this photo for a great piece of art blown up really large.  It's just simple and pretty.

Are You My Mother?

An odd title you say? I want to know if anyone knew right away why I called this photo such an odd name.

Dr. Seuss was a very large part of my childhood, and my own Mother read "Are you my Mother?" to me on a regular basis. If you're not following, I feel sorry for you.....if you are, then you understand why this shot is aptly named!

Aaaaaahhahahahaaaaaa

I took this shot inside the Basilica this afternoon along with many others, but when I got home and looked at them on my computer screen, this one had these light streaks on it, so it's the one I had to
 post.
This is a shot of the giant organ with a circle of lights above it. The light reflected off of the gold cross at the top and this happened. I did darken the photo so the streaks became more intense.  Wow.

Retro Picture Maker

This is a Kodak Duaflex II. I have a collection of old cameras, and this one is my newest addition. I was playing around with them this morning, even took a few shots with one, but film cameras and this project don't mix. Too much turnaround time to develop the photos.

Anyway, this is exactly how I took the picture. I didn't alter it in any way. 

The Company We Keep

Audrey Hepburn and Che Guevara in the same room? Oh yes, we all sat down for a bit of tea and rum!  You have to know, I am laughing out loud as I write this! I found them together at an art show..... Strange bedfellows indeed!

An Apple A Day.....

I got up insanely early today and went to an apple orchard close to Stillwater. It was a complete bust! The apples weren't ready to be picked, it was cold and windy, and the orchard was just plain ugly. This is a shot of some apples in the store that were already picked. I went home empty handed and spent the remainder of the day with old ladies, so this one will have to do!

Now That's Italian!

A certain Sicilian friend of mine taught me how to make a killer red sauce from scratch, which I do by the vat full when I do it.
When I got in front of my computer to go through my photos from today, I had a bowl of the good stuff front in of me. I knew it was better than anything else I had, so I grabbed my camera. Here it is.

Live Art

I wandered around the art at the Walker this morning and turned a corner to see this. I'm so glad I had my camera ready. I love the reflection in the floor,  the simple white background, and the look on the man's face.

Summer Hangs On

September. Argh! I am very aware of the shorter days and the cooler air. Looking for any kind of warm weather inspiration. I chose this shot for today because it looks warm and comforting, like Summer might last forever...... One can dream.

Full Moon

Doesn't this look like the perfect Summer evening?  I caught these two fawn jumping and playing in a stream off of Medicine Lake tonight.  Perfect.  I am keenly aware that these nights are dwindling.

Cavalia

There is a big Circus tent going up in my neighborhood for the upcoming show Cavalia. This is a shot of the guys working on setting it up and cleaning it. They saw me down below and started waving at me, so I obliged.

Chipotle Litterbug

Sometimes you're just in the right place at the right time. This was the case with me tonight. I didn't have a photo I was happy with, so I went out for a walk at sunset. Up the bike ramp, and Bingo! I did not arrange this shot in any way, which is even better.

Are You Ready For Some Football?

At 7:30 tonight the NFL season officially kicks off.  Of all of the seasons we have in Minnesota, I hate Fall the most. Football makes it (Bear)able!

Here's to an incredibly competitive, safe, smack-talking season for all......especially Chicago.

UPS Delivery Around Back

So maybe I have a thing with doors. Whenever I'm on vacation or in a new place I take pictures of doors. Don't you instantly have a feeling when you see a doorway? Welcoming, creepy, intimidating, etc....

This one screams to me: CURIOSITY.....killed the cat!

Fizzy Fruit

I will admit it. This is the epitome of lazy. I had nothing but junk today, so I got out a glass of ginger ale and plunked this strawberry in just so I could get a shot.

Swine Barn Before Sunrise

I am officially off my rocker! I got to the State Fair this morning at 6:20. In the rain. The first place I went was to the animal barns, where I found people knocked out in some pretty unusual places. (See above.)

The rain stopped, the sun came out, and I had a wonderful six hours there!

I am overwhelmed with responsibilities in my life right now, and I feel like my photos have shown it in the last few weeks. I am trying my best, please believe!

Wheel of Fun

Round 2 of the state fair tonight! There's something iconic about the Ferris Wheel, and this shot of the ride standing still was better than the ones I shot of it moving. I promise I've got another visit or two in me. Maybe some people pigging out, or some barn babies in action!
